Testimonials

"On "It's Telling," Sinnett's drums are like a polyphonal voice, even if they speak in a different language, that of rhythm. His work is mindful of Jack DeJohnette or Jeff "Tain" Watts, but it is so good, those comparisons are only a frame of reference."

Pittsburgh Tribune

"Jae Sinnett has produced the kind of recording that I like best from drummer/bandleaders: an unapologetic drummer’s record! The sound of the quartet resonates with me; I enjoy hearing the electric bass support the acoustic instruments and that solid foundation gives Jae more room to stretch out and play with a full sound. Jae’s compositions are well constructed melodically and harmonically, and of course, are quite interesting rhythmically. He gives himself ample solo space, which I applaud. Jae’s playing has grown steadily over the years and “It’s Telling…A Drummer’s Perspective” showcases him at his all-around best -- his most mature and adventurous playing to date."

"As I expected, your new tunes and playing sound great as usual. Great drum sound! Your writing and playing skills keep getting better. You never disappoint me!"

Many Blessings,
Alphonse Mouzon

Wow, sometimes you just stumble onto a little gold. Jae Sinnett's kit work manages to channel bits of my favorite drummers (Jeff Watts, Tony Williams) while retaining his own thing. It's very inspiring to be witness to a player who can muster great power when necessary and still dial back to great levels of sensitivity on the snare and high hat. While it might be a drummer's perspective, Sinnett's quartet pushes him along nearly as much as he drives them. Great stuff.

Testimonials

"Wow! What a great recording! Quite an accomplishment! The writing is serious with excellent arranging and Jae's playing is absolutely terrific. Great sound, feel, and solos. Following in the footsteps of drummer, composer, bandleaders like Tony Williams and Jack DeJohnette, Jae Sinnett's "The Sinnett Hearings" is a relevant statement on what’s happening TODAY in acoustic modern jazz. "
-- Steve Smith

"This is one of the finest straight-ahead compositional collections we've heard."
-- earbuzz.com

"Five stars! A must have CD."
-- cdbaby.com

"Jae Sinnett established his credentials long ago as a first-rate swinging player and prolific composer. The inventive drummer-composer showcases his rhythmically ingenious facility on a new set of originals that run the stylistic gamut from buoyant Brazilian numbers ("Heading South") to funky backbeat-fueled boogaloos ("Third Potato") and catchy, pop-fueled modal vehicles like "Bedrock." Sinnett reveals a towering influence on his dynamic Tony Williams-inspired opener "Palpitations," which shifts nimbly back and forth from six seven. Easily his strongest and most satisfying outing to date."
-- JazzTimes Magazine

“Only my favorite record of the year! For more than a month “The Sinnett Hearings” has traveled with me as sole occupant in my walkman. This is masterful and it gives me a zillion ideas. I'm playing everything in seven these days because I'm listening to this CD.”
-- Award winning composer,
Jon Weber

“The strength of this album lies in its potent melodies, harmonies and engrossing grooves. “The Sinnett Hearings” has all the makings of a classic.”
--Hampton Roads Magazine

"This is one of the most refreshing releases I have heard in a long time. This is a winner!
No package like this anywhere presently."

-- Ahmad Jamal

"Sinnett’s playing is full of smart shifting syncopation and deft punctuation; it’s interesting to listen to his nonstop inventions when he is playing in support. The music — all Sinnett originals — alternates between the soulfully lush and angularly melodic. It has the curious charm of being simultaneously unpredictable and strangely familiar. “Hearings” is intelligent, uncompromising jazz with mainstream appeal."

Testimonials

"Confluence" is a fantastic showcase for Jae Sinnett's strong playing and writing. Jae plays with a swingin' feel, uses musical phrasing and has chops to spare -- a very hip recording."
Steve Smith

"This is first class! The musicianship and each performance confirmed a commitment to excellence in music! Jazz and improvisation came alive in the 21st century. Jae's playing is clean, honest and pure in the purest sense! I compliment him and wish years of performance for many to hear and be inspired by his talent and gift! The world is better from your music and Lord knows, the world needs it now! Keep swinging"!
